Adulting 101 aka Financial Advice & Strategies

HOLD ON NOW! Isn’t the whole dang site pretty much about Adulting? I mean I think Adulting includes dealing with cars and life advice. AGREED. The three bucket breakdown (cars, money & life) is meant to group videos by their areas of interest and is meant to reflect that people will arrive here from various other sources. If you hit upon some car maintenance video, you are more likely to be interested in more car maintenance videos rather than sort through a mish mosh of ungrouped and unrelated videos. Hopefully, when people come here to answer a question about, say, changing brakes; they will also discover the other content and decide to check it out later.

Long story short, my life has been a bit complicated as I am now married for the third time (and finally happily married, I might add). One of my newest daughters, Katy (technically a step daughter) inspired this line of videos. Katy and some of her contemporaries have confided in me that they really don’t feel they were taught many of the basic things you need to know to navigate through life. I suppose its fair to say these types of videos don’t apply only to young adults but to people of any age really.

I could probably give you a half dozen reasons why these subjects are not addressed well but any one would probably get me and the channel banned so let’s leave that alone and focus on the consequences of not knowing the basics. Poor choices make and keep you poor, and many common financial mistakes can cost you dearly.

Now, this type of information is not necessarily hidden but it is certainly not promoted. You could easily make the argument that this type of information is the opposite of what most advertisers are pushing. If you do nothing but what everyone else is doing, you will have nothing but what everyone else has. Namely; crushing debt, high credit card balances, crazy rental payments, an insatiable thirst for distractions and quite likely a mental state somewhere between depression and despair.

Now the last thing I would ask you to keep in mind for all of these videos is that there is more than one way to skin a cat. There are certain things that are non-negotiable like the weight of your car plus gravity plus you being crushed by your car will not end well but there are many things that are negotiable such as do you devote resources to an IRA or 401K vs. starting your own business. As such I would encourage everyone to use their discernment and judgment in watching these and feel free to do what you think is right for you, not necessarily the advice provided here.
